The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) aims to protect data privacy under a common legal framework across Europe. All companies operating in Europe or carrying out transactions with European citizens are subject to the Regulation.
The GDPR Regulation enters into force on 25 May 2018. Non-compliance with the regulation results in heavy fines, while in serious infringements, Data Protection Authorities may impose on organizations fines up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20,000,000, whichever is greater.
